EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

  TOP TEN SYSTEM

The Top Ten System method consists of a series of correct technical and tactical techniques that when put into practice allow a player to play at a highly advanced level.

Nowadays statistics in tennis are in full fashion, they are very interesting for the public and audience but not too good for coaches and players.

With the Top Ten System method, everything gets simplified and it allows us to answer a very important and popular question, which is: what do I need to do to win?

If we look at the results of the study that explains the relation of how top ten players perform, one would simply assume, it’s enough to copy what they do. But is it? Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as that.

How they play from the baseline, how they return, what patterns they use, how they serve, why and when they use the drop shot, and more. The list goes on and on.

All these situations are explored in detail by the Top Ten System method and more important, how to develop these techniques for any player.

I frequently encounter coaches who like working on technical aspects with their players which is great, and quite helpful to applying the Top Ten System method.

However, a lot of coaches think that is better that players play based on their qualities and talent and subsequently, their technique will develop along—so they don't work too hard on the technique itself—but assume that it will simply develop based on the player’s natural talent—in another word they let them do whatever their talent brings out.

From my point of view teaching tennis for more than 30 years, is not necessarily the best approach and can result in a mistake to some extent—not everyone has the natural ability of Roger Federer—so focusing on the technique can come a long way.

The method is based on observation and important statistics have been drawn upon those observations, which ultimately influence the results of a match—in one’s favor, or not.

What I’ve done is to gather those observations and create a method that is easy to understand and apply, once you know it.

The first step is to spend quality time to get the right technique required to win a match—and for the players to apply the right tactics according to those techniques.

At the same time, players are introduced to the 5 main principles of this method—without one of them, it is impossible to play and win games.

These 5 “commandments” or principles are:

1 – Hit the ball.
2 – Hit the ball over the net.
3 – Keep the ball inside the court.
4 – Give a proper direction to the ball.
5 – Hit the ball harder than your opponent.

They seem obvious, don’t they? The player needs to be technically correct and organized with all these principles so that he or she can put the method into practice and learn how to win—which is step 2.

The method is based on 3 parameters, which are required to keep a steady winning balance—these are:

1 – Try to make 2 points in a row—momentum—which leads to a series.

2 – Do not make mistakes by doing a wrong change of direction.
3 – Do not make mistakes at the net.

The execution of these parameters in order and well-balanced is very important—players can practice specific scenarios to get used to them.

By doing this, the player’s confidence and understanding of the game will increase dramatically.

The method teaches players where they need to hit the ball. The parents of young players or their coaches can be the ones taking notes outside when the match is progressing, using these parameters to have a clear understanding of why the player is winning or losing a match.

These can then later be discussed with the player for future times and the information for the next matches.

The good thing about this method is that we can talk to the players and show them the results without getting lost in superfluous things or events that are nowhere near useful to winning future matches.

This method teaches players how to get results based on tactical patterns and parameters outlined.

The now-called “new generation of players” has achieved a high level of talent, however, if they want to keep progressing and become a top ten, they must be able to have the parameters very well structured within their game.

Nowadays the older players play better based on experience—a good thing about this method is that we now have a great tool that we can use in every match the same way, no matter who we play against.

Another great characteristic of the method is that we can play all the time different players, but the method itself remains the same and the focus is based on the same principles and parameters.

The method offers a great path ahead for players that for some reason are stuck with some particular characteristic of their game and don't seem to find a way to improve.

If you are curious and would like to know more, I’d be happy to provide further details—however nothing beats a face-to-face clinic, so you can see the results in a couple of hours.

All the best.
Oscar.
